Safia Khan, Staff Writer

Hi, I’m Safia!  I’m a junior at Hinsdale South and I am also a staff writer for Stinger. I decided to join Stinger during my junior year because I love reading and writing, and I thought joining the newspaper would be a great way for me to meet new people and write about topics I’m interested in. When I’m not swamped with homework, I like to write poetry, read books, bake, and watch Criminal Minds on Netflix.

Here are some fun facts about me:

I won 2nd place at the Highland Park Poetry Competition during 2020. My poem was published in an award winning anthology among poets from around the world.

My article about mental health amidst the pandemic was published by an international mental health organization, Erika’s Lighthouse.

A poem of mine was published in Stinger prior to me joining the club.

I love baking! I bake mostly on the weekends and I’ve made a lot of different desserts. My favorite dessert to eat and make is chocolate chip cookies.

I’m really into fashion and styling myself. Something that a lot of people don’t know about me is I wore black from head to toe for a year in middle school. I will never live that down.
