This year’s Met Gala theme is “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” This theme has piqued the interest of celebrities and fans alike. Expectations are high for the May 6 party, but there are a significant number of doubts.
Met gala 2018 was themed “Heavenly Bodies” and it was a complete hit. Every single attendee was dressed stunningly and accurately to the theme. This theme was all about religion, style, beauty, and interpretation. The most famous look from this gala was Blake Lively’s gown, embroidered with beautiful diamonds and completed with a changeable skirt that completely transformed the outfit into something utterly magical. Not a single celebrity disappointed me during that gala.
Then, only a year later, the 2019 met gala themed “camp” was an utter disaster. And no, “camp” does not mean bonfires and wilderness in this scenario. “Camp” refers to the idea of something being “so bad, it’s good.” You can probably guess, this theme was quite difficult to nail. “Camp” isn’t something you can create, it sort of just happens. It’s almost impossible to perfectly make something disgustingly good. That being said, everyone at that gala looked horrible (and not in a camp way). However, I don’t blame the celebrities or the stylists for the tragedy that was Met Gala 2019. Instead, I blame whoever picked that atrocious theme.
So, you can see how people may have mixed feelings about this new theme. It can be very easily interpreted incorrectly. I hope we don’t see anyone in sleeping masks and pijamas this upcoming May. All jokes aside though, my prediction for this year’s Met Gala is that we will see at least a majority of beautiful garments. Hopefully we will find celebrities dressed in the latest fashion with a twist using their own interpretations.
