Need a break from your academics? Want to have fun with your school community? Have a lot of South Pride? Mark your calendars for Thursday February 12, where Hinsdale South will host the annual Class Wars assembly!
This assembly, which is sponsored by the activities director, Mr. Chavarria, will be hosted after 8th period from 2:30 PM to the end of the day and will feature various faculty members and students who will represent their grade level through battling to be crowned champion.
Before the competition begins, the Mighty Hornet Pep Band will play the Star Spangled Banner and then the school fight song. After the band performs, the first event taking place will feature musical chairs where competitors will walk around a set of chairs while the music is playing and when the music stops, competitors will try to find a chair as fast as possible and the one person that is unable to find one will be eliminated.
For a new event this year there will be the pizza box challenge, which is where 5 students carry pizza boxes and try to knock out other students’ pizza boxes in their hands. After the challenge, there will be a drumline performance.
After the pizza box challenge, there will be a push up contest to see which students or staff can do the most push ups. After the contest, there will be a cheerleading performance.
Afterwards there’ll be a relay race, featuring a series of games notably including the mummy wrap, where competitors wrap other competitors in toilet paper. After the race, the danceline will perform.
The final event of the assembly will be the donut race, where competitors go on a scooter in a team of two while being fed a donut. And to top it all off, at the very end of the assembly, there will be an opportunity to watch teachers getting pied in the face by their fellow students.
“On one hand I get to represent the Seniors, but on the other hand I’m playing in front of the whole school.” Senior Ron Myo states. “It is the best assembly of the whole school year because of its spirit and it helps students take a break from their academics and enjoy some competition with their classmates,” activities director, Mr. Chavarria says.
Along with the class wars, there will be a spirit week. Monday will be a pajama day, Tuesday will be a twin day, Wednesday will be a Jersey or College day, and Thursday will be a Class Shirts Day. There will be no school on Friday or on Monday the week after, making it a four day long weekend.
After a long month into the semester of hard work, our school deserves a well-earned break for an assembly to watch our classmates perform in front of over 1300 other students and show us what it means to have South Pride!
