(SOUTH) Thursday, September 18th, firefighters from the Tri-State Fire Protection Station showed up at Hinsdale South, but not for the usual reasons they would be there. Instead, they showed up to tell students about their careers, let them hold their tools, and to interact with the community they serve.
Photography classes came down to take photos of the event, and of students enjoying the conversations they were holding with the firefighters and EMTs. Students from all over the lunchroom also came to the event, and got to hold fire axes, and various other types of machinery.
During an Interview with Mr Richard, he would explain the lesson he was trying to teach when he would bring his students out for the event.
“I wanted to show students, how we can get involved in the community because these people (the firemen and EMTs) risk their lives to keep us safe.”
During the event they also announced a new competition for a new logo for the fire station, in which Hinsdale South students would be able to design a new logo for the station to replace the old outdated logo.
In an Interview with Brandon Gudovitz a engineer at the station, he said
“The old logo was actually designed by me, I wanted a logo that represented your school (Hinsdale South) so I looked back on the history of your school’s logos and settled for a design based on the old hornet design.”
Throughout this event, the firefighters and EMTs showed up and brought their firetruck and ambulance to let students experience what it’s like to be in such a vehicle. In the ambulance students got to see the instruments that EMT’s use to save lives.
During an Interview with Lt. Dave Davis he would explain how this event was three years in the making and why he wanted to do this event.
“Ive asked to do this event for about three years now, and I’m so glad that they let this event happen, it feels good to be with the community that we are close to. As this is our first year coming here for such an event we hope to be able to do this next year”
The Firemen would also give out free firehats to students which would be seen all throughout the school as students would wear them.
This event would be a nice gesture by the Tri state fire station as it brought students closer to their community, while still being in school.
