Mrs. Howard is an English teacher, and she sponsors the Junior/Senior Hornet Leadership Board and has sponsored and coached many more clubs and sports in the past. She has been teaching for 30 years at Hinsdale South and did not expect to teach here. When asked about what she felt about HSHS, she explained that “I feel like a hornet through and through.” She feels HSHS is a great place where people genuinely care about each other, and she loves her students and department. As a student, Mrs Howard enjoyed the academic and athletic programs at school, as well as the connections between students and teachers. She explained that HSHS has changed a lot physically with the remodel and other renovations over the years, like additions of new wings, the library getting smaller, and different offices in different areas. However, as a school, it has become more racially and economically diverse. She follows up by expressing that “Our school prepares kids for the real world.” Though she does think that AP and honors courses prepare students well, there is work to be done in preparing kids who are unsure or don’t want to go to school and giving the most options to students at graduation. Mrs Howard also wishes there could be less animosity between South and Central, and for the two schools to be more connected. When asked if she recommends teaching at HSHS, she expressed “Oh, absolutely.”’
