Spring means college decisions are coming. Senior swimmer Parker Chan recently committed to Washington University. His swimming career at South has been extremely successful including three sophomore records, three varsity records, and four pool records. He list of accomplishments includes 12 All-Conference awards, 2 All-State awards, and one All-American recognition.
During the last four years, Chan not only showed skill, but he also had fun with his teammates. He most enjoyed “traveling and going to team events,” Chan said.
Although Chan has been swimming competitively since he was seven, swimming at the college level is not something he had paid attention to until recently. He received offers from several colleges but eventually chose WashU as his favorite. The school, located in St. Louis, is ranked 7th in Men’s Swimming among Division 3 schools. Chan hopes to keep-up his winning ways by placing in the top three at the NCAA Championships.
While some athletes find the college recruitment process to be stressful and demanding, Chan felt different. “The college recruitment process was one of the most fun parts of swimming,” Chan said. “I really enjoyed learning about programs and how things work at the collegiate level. Going on visits [and] meeting new people.”
Parker Chan’s success has not come easily, as he logs more than 20 hours of training per week. Chan’s advice to aspiring college athletes is, “working hard consistently will create the best results.”
