Ms. Johnson is a math teacher and the head coach of cross country, and she has always been known best for her positive and enthusiastic attitude. Ms. Johnson always enjoyed her time at HSHS and liked the Friday night football games. One day, she saw a job opportunity opened at HSHS, and just applied without thinking she would get in, but was elated when she did. As a teacher, she enjoys making a good educational experience for every student. Ms. Johnson remarked that HSHS has drastically changed a lot over time, as the building has gotten ‘prettier’ and the philosophy has changed. HSHS has always been warm and welcoming, but there are a lot of adults running in the background trying to make the HSHS a place that can be safe and welcoming for students. She also loves the addition of the Stinger Station at school and frequently buys the Chai teas, which she confidently believes are better than Starbucks. Ms. Johnson was also a runner in her high school career and loves coaching cross country. The program has changed a lot, as the school population has declined and student opportunities have increased. However, HSHS has always honed in on students who know what they want to do. She firmly believes the team is more cohesive now and that as a small group, the team is close, compared to when she was in high school. Ms Johnson does think that the school can put less emphasis on standardized tests, as there is always underlying pressure to do well on standardized testing. When asked if she would recommend teaching here she replied, “Oh absolutely. One hundred percent.”
