Andrea Crisp is a senior at Hinsdale South High who has been active in the theater community for numerous years. This year she has taken on the role of being one of the student directors in the One Act plays with her production Bending Time.
Creating your own play and directing students comes with a lot of responsibility and leadership. Crisp explained how last year, “[she] was part of the props and stage crew for one of the One Acts.” This differs vastly from this year as she takes on a much bigger role.
Throughout the entire process she noted how her emotions varied from being “hectic” to “collected,” especially as she progressed further to the end of her play. However, whenever struggles came her way, she was able to remain motivated, as she believed the plays were “the perfect opportunity to get to involve other kids in a project very special to me.” Despite all of the drastic emotions and challenges she faced, she ultimately created an authentic and heartfelt production–which also allowed many other students to partake in a special event.
Crisp also mentioned how she struggled with time management; she had to learn how to be two or three places at once, juggling time between her extracurricular activities, college applications, and rehearsals. This was difficult to keep up with at first, but once she got into the swing of things, it became easier to do everything.
Creating a play from scratch takes courage, motivation, and perseverance, and Andrea Crisp possesses all of those qualities. She turned a small idea into something huge, and her hard-work will be showcased by the Hinsdale South Drama Department on October 25th and 26th!
