Mr. Beyah is a student teacher who teaches math. He is one of the basketball coaches and is known for his applications of math to the real world, as well as catching cheaters on tests. As Mr. Beyah was finishing his teaching degree, he knew he wanted to at least student teach at HSHS. He has always liked the community here, and he was very involved back when he was a student at South.
As a teacher, Mr. Beyah likes seeing the process of what happens in the background of creating everything that goes into HSHS. He remarked that a lot of physical things in the building have changed since he was in high school, such as the desks, flooring, and shortcuts. Additionally, he has experienced the change from having no chromebooks and lugging around textbooks. There have been a lot of affairs that have stayed the same, however. Most notably the teachers, like Mr. Wolkow, Mr. Snider, and Ms. Johnson. These educators have the same demeanor they did when Mr. Beyah was still in high school, and still bring their positive energy into teaching. He didn’t play basketball in high school, but he had a great passion for the game and played in college. As a coach, not only does he bring his passion for the game, but he also has the chance to develop students and help them reach the next level. Besides being able to coach a sport he loves, he enjoys being able to connect with the students, stating “I’m not only your teacher, but I’m also your coach. I see you way too much during the school day, and I know what you’re up to. Just please do your work.” Though Mr Beyah loves the basketball program, he wishes that sports in high school were more similar to college, where there are more programs and resources for injuries and healthy decision making pushed out to students. He recommends teaching at HSHS “For sure.”
