Many students were excited for the recently added cafe filled with new drinks, introduced to Hinsdale South last year. However, once we tried the smoothies, we were astounded with the unsavoriness of the blended drinks. The two of us, Peyton Chang and Sofiya Antonova, strongly believe that the Stinger Station smoothies are utterly distasteful, from the endless ingredient lists to the most bizarre flavors. Can you believe that they came out with a pumpkin pie SMOOTHIE?
Typically, a smoothie is seen as a nutritional powerhouse; however, the green lemonade that was meant to be healthy had an ingredient list that was a mile long full of unspellable words! Not to mention, it also tasted like vomit. Some do taste acceptable however, but given the amount of chemicals in it, they probably should be tasting better.
We also noticed that the smoothies are pretty quick to separate and create solid at the top and liquid at the bottom, making it look as if it had been in someone’s car for 3 days in hot weather. Not only that, but have you noticed that right when you are handed your smoothie, which by the way has probably been sitting in the display for a week, it’s solid and gelatinous? This is quite preposterous and leads us to question really what they are putting in these blended concoctions.
Not to mention, the prices are monstrous — each milkshake costs approximately $4.75! If you bought a box of fruit, some milk, and a bottle of honey, and with some ingredients you probably already have at home, you could make yourself dozens of healthy homemade versions for a fraction of the cost!
According to fellow student Rohan Joshi who had just purchased a strawberry milkshake, “Even though the concept of a beverage shop in the school is a great idea, some of the drinks they’re selling are extremely unhealthy and overpriced.”
