With homecoming season in full swing, many students have begun buying their dresses for the occasion.

Purchasing a new and up to date homecoming dress helps make the event even more memorable, but buying a new dress every year can also get expensive. The price of these dresses typically ranges from around $40 to a couple hundred dollars. A majority of the students at our school do not reuse their old homecoming dresses, so this cost adds up over the years. Since students only wear these dresses once or twice and then put them away, spending this much money on a dress every year for four years gets very costly. 

This is mostly a result of fast fashion. This is when companies produce clothes at a quicker rate at the expense of their quality and working conditions. These clothes are made at a cheap price and at an extremely rapid pace so that those companies can keep up with recent fashion trends. 

On the contrary, homecoming dresses can also be a way to express yourself. The unique styles and bright colors could help you boost your confidence. They also make the event more memorable and can remind you of an enjoyable night with your friends.
