With off campus lunch being piloted this year with the seniors of Hinsdale South, many students are wondering if it will be extended to the younger classes in the future.
Some students believe that off campus lunch should not include any grades other than the seniors. Harlow Stewart, senior, said that “The school probably just wants the older, mature kids to be out.” Similarly, Violet Drahos, freshmen, expressed that “it would probably be complicated having so much of the school being able to leave. The younger students […] don’t have as much maturity as the older students.”
There are some, however, that think off campus lunch might be extended to younger grades as well. Maeve Savage, junior, said that “juniors should be able to go off campus too, but it should be stricter for them so it doesn’t get out of control.”
Security Supervisor Ed Zorich believes that there is a chance for off campus lunch to include younger classes under some circumstances. “If the seniors set the trend and we don’t have problems like students leaving out other doors or leaving campus when no one knows, I think they can expand it to another class such as the juniors.”
