Leaping Into State

For the first time in Hinsdale South history, danceline has made it into the final round of IHSA State and placed 11th overall in state. Representing South among Illinois’s best dance teams and leading her teammates is senior Estella Carroll.

At just 3 years old, Carrol began dancing alongside her sister and later joined her junior high school’s team with her friends. During her years at South, she supported her team at IDTA State, consistently placing on top. Carrol describes South’s dance community as positive and hardworking, putting in all their efforts to place at State.

Some of her favorite memories from dance have been made while bonding with her teammates at state. Although competing can be stressful, she finds comfort in the fact that her teammates relate to how she feels and are there for each other.

Outside of competitions, Carrol enjoys performing at South’s football games. “At football games I love being surrounded by all my teammates and not having to worry about competitions and just having fun.”

Soon entering college, Carrol plans on attending Louisiana State University to major in Biochemistry/ Health Sciences in hopes of pursuing a career in the medical field.

Although she won’t continue dancing after high school, Carrol “would not give up these last 4 years for anything.”
