A Synopsis of Super Bowl LVII

On February 12, the 57th Super Bowl in National Football League history took place between the American Football Conference champion Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football Conference champion Philadelphia Eagles. The game was played at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix. Both teams entered the game at a league-best record of 14-3, but the suspense leading up to the end game did not end there.

Super Bowl LVII was one of the most anticipated games of its kind leading up to Sunday, being the first to feature two brothers playing against each other in the game (Travis Kelce, Chiefs; Jason Kelce, Eagles) and the first to feature two black starting quarterbacks (Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs; Jalen Hurts, Eagles). The duo of Mahomes (27) and Hurts (24) also combined as the youngest starting quarterback pair in Super Bowl history. Finally, the game was also given the moniker of the “Andy Reid Bowl,” as current Chiefs coach Andy Reid had coached the Eagles from 1999 to 2012.

Perhaps the most awaited event of all of Super Bowl Sunday was the Apple Music Halftime Show, headlined by Rihanna. In her first live performance in over a half-decade, Rihanna performed several of her most memorable songs. Notably, during her performance, the Grammy-award winning singer announced her pregnancy.

Super Bowl LVII lived up to the hype as the Chiefs and Eagles fought in a remarkably close shoot-out. Both teams played extremely well throughout the game as key players made critical plays in timely manners. As the time in the fourth quarter dwindled and the score tied at 35, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes orchestrated the eventual game-winning drive, setting up kicker Harrison Butker for a field goal and icing the game for Kansas City, 38-35.Super Bowl LVII MVP Patrick Mahomes

Mahomes was named Super Bowl MVP after the conclusion of the game. With this, Mahomes also becomes the first player in the NFL since 1999 to win NFL MVP and Super Bowl MVP in the same year. With their second Super Bowl victory in four years, the Chiefs have undoubtedly established themselves as the next dynasty of the NFL. As for the Eagles, while they did come up just short, they have an incredibly bright future with Hurts as their quarterback and are expected to return to the big game soon.
