A Celebration of Fashion
The Met Gala is an annual fundraiser for New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute and has become a well-recognized showcase for fashion. Organized by “Vogue,” the 2022 Met Gala had the theme, “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” and invited a long list of high-profile celebrities approved by Vogue Editor-in-Chief, Anna Wintour.
The Met Gala is very secretive. Red carpet reveals are the most anticipated of the whole event. From what we know, the gala includes a cocktail hour, formal dinner, a walk through of the year’s themed gallery (the gallery this year is based on America’s history in the fashion industry), and special performances from selected entertainers.
The Met Gala is invite-only with each ticket estimated to cost about $35,000. Despite the Met Gala being a fundraiser, many celebrities attend for free. The best way to go to the Met Gala for free is to be chosen by a high-fashion brand to wear their clothing.
Attendees included A-list celebrities like Billie Eilish, Kim Kardashian, Gigi Hadid, Laura Harrier, Paapa Essiedu, Kaia Gerber, and co-chair, Blake Lively. All showed off glamorous outfits in a grand reveal. Billie Eilish, wearing Gucci, made a memorable appearance in her ivory dress with lace sleeves. Kim Kardashian shocked the crowd with the reveal of her gown; the same iconic dress in which Marilyn Monroe sang, “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” in 1962. Gigi Hadid, Laura Harrier, and Paapa Essiedu all amazed photographers with luscious, colorful outfits. Kaia Gerber rocked long, curly hair paired with a glittery dress. Blake Lively, wearing Versace, made a grand entrance with the reveal of her Statue of Liberty inspired gown.
